Restoring Urban Green Spaces Through Native Tree Plantation | Sector 137, Noida

Team Volunteers137, in coordination with the Irrigation Department, Head Works Division, Agra Canal, Okhla, carried out a plantation drive by planting native and ecologically significant tree species, including Jamun (Indian Blackberry), Guava, Wood Apple (Stone Apple), and Royal Poinciana (Flamboyant), along the Metro road adjoining the Kondli Storm Water Drain at Sector 137, Noida.

The plantation drive was supported by the Irrigation Department, Head Works Division, Agra Canal, Okhla, under the guidance of Shri Sanjeev Bhardwaj (Assistant Engineer), Shri Devesh Sharma (Junior Engineer), and Shri Vijay Kumar Gupta (Junior Engineer). The initiative also witnessed the enthusiastic participation of Preeti Sharma, Rachna Malick, Pooja Lohia, Pankaj Bhatnagar, and Dilip Kumar from Team Volunteers137, reflecting a shared commitment to environmental conservation and ecological restoration.

The selected tree species provide multiple ecological benefits. Native fruit-bearing trees such as Jamun, Guava, and Wood Apple provide nutritious food for birds and wildlife, enhance biodiversity, improve air quality, strengthen the urban green cover, and support pollinators. Royal Poinciana (Flamboyant) contributes through its dense canopy, shade, vibrant seasonal blooms, carbon sequestration, and enhancement of the urban landscape.

This plantation initiative is another step towards restoring green corridors along the Kondli Storm Water Drain, improving urban biodiversity, and building climate-resilient green infrastructure for Noida.

Together, we continue to work towards ecological restoration, biodiversity conservation, and building a greener, healthier, and more sustainable Noida.
