Action Taken Against Industrial Discharge in River Hindon, Beghrajpur

Industrial pollution continues to pose a serious threat to the health of the River Hindon, particularly in the Beghrajpur Industrial Area of Muzaffarnagar. In a recent development, a joint review and field-level coordination with Shri Geetesh Chandra, Regional Officer of UPPCB Muzaffarnagar, led to the identification of five non-compliant industrial units responsible for unlawful discharge.

Key Actions Initiated

Following the inspection and verification process, strict enforcement measures were undertaken against the violating units:

  1. Disconnection of electricity supply to ensure immediate halt of operations
  2. Closure of all five identified units involved in non-compliant discharge
  3. Show-case notices issued to two paper mills

Additionally, Show-cause notices issued to two sugar units under provisions of the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act

      i. Sugar mill (IPL, Titavi)

      ii. DSM sugar unit

Moving Toward Accountability

These actions mark an important step toward ensuring industrial accountability and safeguarding the ecological integrity of the Hindon River. Regulatory enforcement, when combined with active monitoring and community vigilance, can significantly reduce environmental degradation.

Continued coordination between authorities, industry stakeholders, and civil society groups remains essential to prevent further pollution and to restore the river ecosystem.
