Today, Volunteers 137, in association with Usha Kiran Kids, planted more than 200 saplings of Gulmohar (Royal Poinciana / Flame Tree), Amla (Indian Gooseberry), Arjun (Arjun Tree), and Jamun (Java Plum / Indian Blackberry) trees along the banks of the Kondli Storm Water Drain in Sector 137, Noida.

The plantation drive was attended by Senior District Forest Officer Shri Shani Gautam, representing the Forest Department in the absence of Divisional Forest Officer, Gautam Buddh Nagar, Shri Rajnikant Mittal, who was unable to attend due to an urgent official commitment.

This initiative reflects our collective commitment to environmental conservation, biodiversity enhancement, and creating a greener future for the community. We sincerely thank all volunteers, children, officials, and supporters who contributed to the success of this meaningful drive.

Why the Kondli Storm Water Drain?

The plantation site was strategically chosen along the banks of the Kondli Storm Water Drain because trees and vegetation play an important role in natural bioremediation. Species such as Arjun, Jamun, Amla, and bamboo help stabilize the soil, enhance biodiversity, and support microbial activity that can contribute to the reduction of pollutants, including harmful bacteria such as E. coli and other pathogens. Over time, green buffer zones along water channels can help filter runoff, improve water quality, and reduce the overall pollution load entering downstream ecosystems. Thereby, giving resting place to polluted water to clean itself.

This effort builds upon an earlier plantation drive at the same location, during which more than 1,000 bamboo saplings were planted, leading to total plantation during this year crossed over 7000 saplings. Together, these initiatives aim to create a dense green corridor that contributes to environmental restoration, improved water quality, and a healthier ecosystem along the drain.
